Popular Hot Pot phenomenon takes Sweden by storm

China has long been a culinary powerhouse with a fascinating variety of dishes and flavors. A traditional Chinese food experience that has made its way to Sweden in recent times is Hot Pot, known as "huǒguō" in Chinese, which is now available at Pong Lindhagen.
– Pong Lindhagen has taken the hot phenomenon to the next level, says founder Michael Zhan.

The Hot Pot dish dates back to ancient China and has evolved into a popular traditional meal, now part of Pong's wide buffet selection. Michael Zhan, founder of the restaurant chain Pong, explains that the concept is simple yet exciting.

– A pot of flavorful broth is placed in the middle of the table, and guests then cook a variety of raw ingredients such as meat, seafood, vegetables, and noodles directly in the pot. It is a social and interactive food experience that allows everyone at the table to enjoy cooking their food according to their own preferences.

In addition to Hot Pot, Korean BBQ is also included in the buffet, ensuring there is something for everyone, says Michael.

Popularizing the trend

The Hot Pot phenomenon has quickly become a trend in Sweden, and Pong Lindhagen is one of the first restaurants to make the concept accessible to a wider audience. Their varied selection of broths, sauces, and ingredients allows guests to customize their Hot Pot according to their taste preferences: whether you prefer a mild and cooling broth or a hot and spicy version, there is something for you.

– Gathering around a Hot Pot table is more than just a meal; it is an experience that allows both young and old to share good food and create memories together. We wanted to create a natural gathering point around a table where families and friends in Sweden can do just that, while exploring the Chinese culinary world. If you're not in the mood for Hot Pot, you can of course choose from sushi, main courses, dumplings, and desserts from our Pong Buffet, says Michael.

Custom-designed tables from China
Traditionally, Hot Pot restaurants have been smoky and steamy due to the open, boiling pot. Therefore, Pong Lindhagen has invested in smart ventilation systems, which, Michael explains, ensure that it doesn't get too hot or smoky around the table.
– We have installed custom-designed tables directly from China, where the "pot," the actual pot, is built into the table. This makes it easy and convenient for our guests to explore different flavors and ingredients while having enough space to socialize and share a meal together.

When Pong decided to introduce Hot Pots, Michael tells us that they wanted to offer a restaurant experience that not only provided good food but also an experience for the entire party.
– Now we can say that the Hot Pot phenomenon is here to stay.
