Popular Hot Pot Phenomenon Takes Sweden by Storm

China has long been a culinary powerhouse with a fascinating array of dishes and flavors. A traditional Chinese dining experience that has made its way to Sweden recently is Hot Pot, known as "huǒguō" in Chinese, which is now available at Pong Lindhagen.
– Pong Lindhagen has taken the hot phenomenon to the next level, says Michael Zhan, founder.

The dish Hot Pot has roots dating back to ancient China and has evolved over time into a popular traditional meal, now included in Pong's wide buffet selection. Michael Zhan, founder of the restaurant chain Pong, explains that the concept is simple but exciting.

– A pot with flavorful broth is placed in the middle of the table, and guests then cook a variety of raw ingredients like meat, seafood, vegetables, and noodles directly in the pot. It is a social and interactive dining experience that allows everyone at the table to enjoy cooking their food according to their own preferences.

In addition to Hot Pot, Korean BBQ is also included in the buffet, ensuring there is something for everyone, notes Michael.

Popularizing the Trend

The Hot Pot phenomenon has quickly become a trend in Sweden, and Pong Lindhagen is one of the first restaurants to make the concept accessible to a wider audience. Their diverse selection of broths, sauces, and ingredients allows guests to customize their Hot Pot to their taste preferences: whether you prefer a mild and cooling broth or a hot and spicy variety, there is something for you.

– Gathering around a Hot Pot table is more than just a meal; it is an experience that allows both young and old to share good food and create memories together. We wanted to create a natural gathering point around a table where families and friends here in Sweden can do just that, while exploring the Chinese culinary world. If you're not in the mood for Hot Pot, you can of course choose from sushi, main dishes, dumplings, and desserts from our Pong Buffet, says Michael.

Custom-Designed Tables from China
Traditionally, Hot Pot restaurants have been smoky and steamy due to the open, boiling pot. Therefore, Michael explains, Pong Lindhagen has invested in smart ventilation systems to ensure it doesn't get too hot or smelly around the table.
– We have installed custom-designed tables directly from China, where the "pot," the actual pot, is built into the table. This makes it easy and convenient for our guests to explore different flavors and ingredients while having enough space to socialize and share a meal together.

When Pong decided to introduce Hot Pots, Michael explains that they wanted to offer a restaurant experience that not only served delicious food but also an experience for the entire party.
– Now we can confirm that the Hot Pot phenomenon is here to stay.
